About Edmundston, NB

Edmundston is the most densely populated city in this region, and it serves as a major hub for regional businesses and services. The city has gone through several name changes throughout the years, each representing a piece of the land and culture. The place was initially named “Madoueskak,” which means “the place of the porcupines,” followed by colonists who coined the city “Petit-Sault,” and later Edmundston after a former New Brunswick governor.

Being one of the most populated cities in New Brunswick, Edmundston has plenty of properties to offer for sale. Whether you’re looking for a new place to settle down or an investment property for long-term rental purposes, Edmundston has it all. The real estate market in Edmundston is quite diverse, and there are all types of properties for sale in this city. From single-family homes to multi-unit buildings, you can find everything here. The average home price in Edmundston for a single-family home ranges between $130,000 and $150,000.

Once you are moved in and settled, you’ll want to check out some of Edmundston’s history at the Madawaska Museum. The Galerie Colline has some magnificent works of art for you to see, and there is a permanent exhibit of ancient objects depicting the history of Madawaska County as well. Some of Edmundston’s most delicious restaurants, unique retail shops, and quirky local businesses are within a few steps of these popular activities. Looking to get active? The Regional Sports Complex offers residents a semi-Olympic-sized swimming pool, indoor basketball and tennis courts, a rock climbing wall, and more! If you’d prefer to get your steps in while taking in some scenery, Edmundston is home to 130 km of biking and walking trails within Petit-Témis Interprovincial Linear Park. The trails link Edmundston to Rivière-du-Loup in Québec, so your adventure doesn’t have to stop in town! Every turn reveals new and wonderful panoramas as you follow the winding trail along an abandoned railway track.

Historically, the logging industry has played a significant role in Edmundston’s economic development. Edmundston was home to the world’s largest sawmill, which is now known as JDS Miller. However, with the industrial decline in this sector within New Brunswick over recent years, Edmundston has had to develop a more diversified economy, including high-tech industries and call centers. Some of the largest employers in Edmundston include JDS Miller and Sealand

If you or anyone in your family are looking to further your education, Edmundston has its own campus of the University of Moncton. The Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick, campus d’Edmundston (CCNB), is also only a short distance away. As far as primary and secondary school options go, Edmundston offers plenty of private and public education opportunities.
