The Church-Yonge Corridor was once only a handful of estates, but eventually, the family owners of the properties subdivided the land into the neighbourhood we see today. Victorian-style mansions were built along Jarvis and Sherbourne, which set the character of the neighbourhood.
The appearance of the Church-Yonge Corridor is changing. Today you’ll find several posh high-rise condos attracting mainly single, young professionals.

When the land was subdivided into the neighbourhood of Church-Yonge Corridor in the mid-1800s, several Victorian Era homes were built, making the area a sought-after place to live. Most of these homes are still standing, though they have been converted into multi-family housing or commercial properties. Since then the make-up of the neighbourhood has evolved. In the 1920s, art-deco walk-up apartments were built, and high-rise apartments were developed in the 1950s. From the 1970s to the early 2000s, chic townhomes were built.
Homes for sale in the Church-Yonge Corridor are usually condos and sell on average for just over $652,000. Though the area is a popular place to live, this is a notably affordable place to live compared to the greater Toronto area that has a median home price of about $1,060,000.

St. James Park
The St. James Park sits next to the St. James Cathedral near King St. E and Jarvis St. It is filled with beautiful formal gardens, a gazebo, playground, and splash pad.
Ryerson Community Park
This park is off of Gould St. and is a part of Ryerson University. During the months of November through February, you can ice skate in the rink here! The Devonian Pond is also close by.
Barbara Hall Park
Located near the intersection of Church St. and Dundonald St. is the small Barbara Hall Park. This park offers a designated area to let your dog run around, a playground, and a splash pad.
Located at 35 Wellington St E, the very bottom of the Church-Yonge Corridor is Berczy Park. This park sits right across from the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts. When you visit this park, you will see just how much influence the Art Centre has over this area with all its unique and artistic features. This park is a great place to hang out and enjoy being outside. It also has a large historic water fountain as its centrepiece.
When you move here, you’ll find that just because you’re in the big city doesn’t mean you have to go without green spaces and outdoor fun. Some other parks in the neighbourhood are: Market lane Park, Alexander Park, James Canning Gardens, and George Hislop Park.
Shopping and Dining
Due to the vast majority of high-rise condos and being so close to downtown Toronto, shopping and dining are made convenient! You do not have to travel far to do any kind of shopping or eating out. If there’s not a restaurant or shop located inside your apartment complex or condo building, there are plenty of places within walking distance to meet your needs. There are a lot of shops and restaurants along Yonge Street, Church Street, as well as several convenience stores sprinkled throughout the neighbourhood.
Being as the Church-Yonge Corridor is practically downtown Toronto, public transportation couldn’t be more convenient. If you’re not up for walking, any of Toronto’s public transit options are always available. There are three options the city offers: Subway, Streetcar, and Bus. Which type of travel you’ll want to take will depend on where you’re needing to go.
