Welcome to eXp Realty’s center for home listings in Nova Scotia. Get instant access to everything you want to know about Nova Scotia real estate listings, including property descriptions, virtual tours, maps, and photos.

Nova Scotia is the prime destination for waterfront properties and quaint villages. Surrounded by ocean, every property is within about 55km of the coast. Many are drawn to Nova Scotia because of the high quality of life and low cost of living, making it the second most populous province in Canada. The province is recognized as a center for the arts, meaning there are countless art galleries and playhouses for all to enjoy. With a large Scottish population, Nova Scotia also provides many historic sites, museums, and festivals that celebrate its Scottish heritage. The maritime province provides many opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and oceanside hikes. With housing costs that are only about half of what you would see in neighboring provinces, Nova Scotia offers a great place to put down roots.

Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia is a land flourishing with lush forests, rolling seas, and glistening lakes. The experience you’ll have when moving to Nova Scotia will be unlike anything else. The quality of life and proximity to surrounding natural wonders is unique to Nova Scotia, and may be difficult to find in much of North America today. Nova Scotians enjoy low housing costs and smaller communities, making it one of the most enjoyable places to live in Canada. In June of 2020, the average home price in Nova Scotia was $286,227, which is almost $300,000 less than the Canadian average!

History of Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia boasts a diverse history of Celtic, Aboriginal, Acadian, and African cultures. The province prides itself on maintaining its eclectic culture and is now home to more than 100 cultures and ethnicities. There are several museums, monuments, and festivals throughout Nova Scotia that celebrate the many communities that live here.

For more than 5,000 years before European settlement, Native Mi’kmaq lived among Nova Scotia’s rich waters. From 1497 to 1605, John Cabot led the way for European exploration in the province. However, it was the French that eventually established Port Royal as the first permanent European settlement in Nova Scotia. Acadie, the French territory, has extended into Maine, parts of Quebec, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.

After a century of fighting for territory, the British gained control of the province and established a government in 1848, making Nova Scotia one of the first official provinces in Canada. With a strong fishing and shipbuilding industry, Halifax became a hub for transporting goods. Shortly after 1867, the first railway was built between Nova Scotia and Quebec City, bringing extensive prosperity to the area.

The use of modern-day metal vessels instead of wooden ships caused some trying times for Nova Scotia’s shipbuilding industry. However, the province started moving upward again during WWII. Since then, the tourism industry has joined the fishing and shipbuilding industries as major players in Nova Scotia’s economy. About Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia is a beautiful province that has a lot to offer its residents. The area’s natural beauty and rich culture have helped it become an attractive destination for those looking to make their home in the region. Nova Scotia is located on the east coast of Canada. It has a population of about 950,000 people and it’s home to Halifax, which is one of Canada’s most populous cities.

Known for its history, culture, and natural beauty, Halifax has become Nova Scotia’s legislative capital and most populous metropolis. Halifax has a unique, vibrant atmosphere that brings a little bit of city-life to the surrounding rural areas. This capital city is on the upswing economically and demographically, which means there’s a lot of development in many city neighbourhoods. Each day, more restaurants, bars, businesses, and attractions open up, but don’t worry, Nova Scotia’s natural wonder can still be found on every corner.

As a whole, Nova Scotia’s culture is diverse and rich. Over time, the Mi’kmaq have preserved their culture through art, music, language, and stories. The Acadian community, while smaller than other provinces, still practices traditional crafts, and many of them primarily speak in French. The descendants of many Black Loyalists in Nova Scotia, having overcome years and years of hardship, now proudly cherish and celebrate their own culture. However, the Gaelic population remains the largest represented culture in Nova Scotia. These Scottish and Irish descendants still speak Gaelic and celebrate many traditions throughout the province. No matter where you come from, Nova Scotia welcomes you to embrace your culture and celebrate your heritage.

As far as real estate goes, homes in Nova Scotia are particularly affordable. While job opportunities in the area are quite limited, if you are able to work from home or commute to a larger city, this could be an ideal location to buy a home. Many people commute into Halifax for work so that they can take advantage of the lower house prices in rural areas.

Nova Scotia varies from city to city, but you’ll find excellent outdoor activities throughout all of them. From biking trails to shoreside activities, there is enough nature in the province to keep you entertained all year. You can take a drive on the Cabot Trail and see some of the most scenic landscapes in Canada or put on your hiking shoes and head to Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Looking to see some of Nova Scotia’s rich history? Check out the Fortress of Louisbourg, the Canadian Museum of Immigration, or the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax.

Most cities in Nova Scotia are relatively small and easy to get around. The beautiful weather encourages Nova Scotians to walk or get out on their bikes to get where they need to go. The Halifax Stanfield International Airport is the major airport in Nova Scotia, providing a wide array of national and international flights.

Nova Scotia boasts warm summers and very mild winters. One of the plus sides of living in the province is that you don’t have to brace yourself for extreme cold temperatures. Nova Scotia takes the prize for clearest skies year-round in Canada, so it’s no wonder why residents are seen exploring the outdoors on a daily basis.
