The Brookhaven-Amesbury neighbourhood is located along the south side of Lawrence Ave W, and Highway 400/Black Creek Dr is the main thoroughfare that runs down the middle of the community. There are varying interpretations of the exact neighbourhood boundary lines, but it’s safe to say the bulk of this area is nestled in and around these roads.

Most of the homes in the Brookhaven-Amesbury neighbourhood are tall apartment buildings (about 60%). While single-family detached homes are still available, they are not as available. A good portion of the detached homes were built between 1960-1980 and are two and three-bedroom homes.

If you’re new to the area, you will probably notice quickly that most of the homes or dwellings in this neighbourhood are owned by landlords that lease the properties to tenants. Because of this, there are not usually a lot of homes available for sale. About two-thirds of the people here rent, and the rest own their homes.

Two public school boards service the Brookhaven-Amesbury neighbourhood. Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) and Toronto District School Board (TDSB). Recreation

This community knows the importance of green areas and recreational spaces. There are several parks throughout the neighbourhood providing plenty of outdoor playing opportunities.

  • James Trimbee Park– This is a small park that provides a playground for the kids living nearby.
  • Harding Park– offers a playground and a baseball diamond.
  • Tretheway Park West– has much to offer! There is a basketball court, outdoor table tennis, playground, and a multipurpose sport’s field.
  • Tretheway Park East– If you enjoy being outdoors in nature, this is a wonderful park for doing just that! Tretheway Park East sits on the banks of the Black Creek River. This park offers lots of shade and trails.
  • Gulliver Park is near Keele St. and Eglinton Ave W that features a playground, baseball field, and outdoor fitness equipment.
  • Amesbury Park is a large outdoor space that offers a modern playground, baseball fields, and tennis & basketball courts. It’s also a place the community will host big public events such as a Canada Day celebration.

Shopping and Dining

The Brookhaven Amesbury area offers several local shops and restaurants to its residents. People don’t have to go far from home to find what they need or want. Most businesses can be found along the edge of the neighbourhood. There’s a Salvation Army Thrift Store on the corner of Jane St. and Lawrence Ave W. There is also a pharmacy, African market, and Shoppers Drug Mart along Jane St. Tretheway Dr has a couple of restaurants, including Tim Hortons. On the far east side of town and along Keele St., you’ll find a variety of restaurants, a thrift store, and other shops.

Public Transportation

The best way to move around this neighbourhood is to walk or drive a car. Since Brookhaven Amesbury is a neighbourhood of Toronto, there are public bus lines available too. This is not an ideal community to ride a bike as the area simply isn’t set up for this type of transportation, but also because of the frequent elevation changes.
