The Cliffcrest neighbourhood is nestled along the banks of Lake Ontario. It is bordered by Bellamy Road to the east, Midland Avenue to the west, and the Canadian National Railway to the north. Cliffcrest is just over 10 miles from Toronto Centre and is only about 21 minutes commuting by vehicle.
Cliffcrest used to be a commercial park until about 1936 when the streetcar Kingston Road was demolished to make the roads automobile friendly. By the 1940s-50s, Cliffcrest had been developed into the residential neighbourhood it is today.
As mentioned above, Cliffcrest is a place all of its own. Though it’s positioned among the rest of Toronto, it’s a quaint cottage-style neighbourhood attractive to families.
Cliffcrest Real Estate Market
If you are looking for a cozy neighbourhood, Cliffcrest may be the place for you. You’re not going to find high-rises or many condos here. The majority of the homes for sale in Cliffcrest are one-storey-and-a-half, single-detached, cottage bungalows built during the residential development era of the 1940s-50s. While several of the homes were built over half a century ago, several newer custom homes are scattered throughout the area. As this is an intimate beach town, there is a small area of boathouses on the water. Because of this, it’s not uncommon to see boathouses for sale too.
Unlike much of Toronto, Cliffcrest has a high ownership rate, meaning most homes here are owned by those who live in them. The median home price in Cliffcrest is about $819,000. This is a relatively affordable price point since the average cost of homes for sale in Toronto is about $1.2 million. Cliffcrest Parks
Another way Cliffcrest is a neighbourhood all of its own is by the number of parks in this community. Being as it’s a beach town with bluffs, Cliffcrest’s parks boast some incredible views! Below is a list of Cliffcrest Parks worth mentioning:
- Cathedral Bluffs – Though technically a part of Scarborough Bluffs, the Cathedral Bluffs boasts breathtaking views of the bluffs overlooking Lake Ontario. This is also one of the highest points along the bluffs.
- Bluffer’s Park Beach – The only official beach for the Cliffcrest residence, Bluffer’s Park offers picnic areas, a bike trail, an outdoor shower, changing rooms, and a beach that can be accessed from Brimley Road.
- Cudia Park – This park doesn’t have much to offer if you’re looking for playgrounds, but what it does have makes it worth visiting. Cudia Park offers several hiking trails with views of Lake Ontario and Cathedral Bluffs Park.
- Halbert Park Outdoor Pool – This park has a lot to offer, including a pool, wading pool, baseball diamond, multipurpose sports field, splash pad, and a playground.
- Eglinton Park – If you’re looking for more recreational activities, you’ll want to check out Eglinton Park. Here you’ll find two baseball diamonds, a bike trail, five multipurpose fields, two outdoor tennis courts, a picnic area, a playground, and a wading pool!
- Bellamy Park – this small park is perfect for an evening run or watching the kids burn off some energy. Here you’ll find a couple of bike trails and a playground.
- McCowan District Park is situated on the border of Cliffcrest. This is a park worth visiting all year round! Not only will you find numerous bike trails, a playground, and a splash pad, but come in the colder months, and you can enjoy an outdoor rink and skate trail!
Cliffcrest Shopping and Dining
There isn’t a plethora of shops and dining options in Cliffcrest, but there is enough to cover basic necessities. To do most of your errands and eating out, you will want to head over to the Kingston Road passageway. There you’ll find gas stations, banks, the Canadian Tire department store, Dollarama, and restaurants like Tim Hortons and Vindaloo Cuisine, to name a few. You will see other businesses around town, but they are few and far between compared to Kingston Rd.
Cliffcrest Medical Services
The Cliffcrest Health Centre is located along Kingston Ave, but most other health facilities are outside the neighbourhood. The closest hospitals are Scarborough Health Network, Providence Healthcare, and Michael Garron Hospital.
Public Transportation in Cliffcrest
As Cliffcrest is a part of Greater Toronto, there are public transit services available to residents here. Only the bus service will meet you in Cliffcrest, but from here, you’ll be taken to either the Scarborough Go Transit Train station off of St. Clair Ave or the TTC Subway line at Kennedy Station. If you need to commute to the Toronto centre, it will only take you about twenty-five minutes by vehicle.
